Carcross, Yukon
Carcross was a surprise with the vast stretch of sandy beach along Bennett Lake. It was one of those wonderful little towns before the tourists have arrived that you think to yourself I could live here. Then the tourist buses start lineing up, at least a dozen come three times a day. Fortunately they are only in town for about 1/2 an hour at a time, then they leave for Whitehorse or Skagway, Alaska.
We met a lovely hardy German lady who has renovated a small cabin across the lake from the town, she just recently has running water on her property but no electricity or plumbing.
Tatchun Lake, Yukon
Just north of Carmacks on the Klondike Highway is the turn off for Tatchun Lake. Past the Tatchun Government Campsite a few miles was a large free camp site for our trailer and a boat launch. Lots of small bays to explore and fish.
Tatchun Lake was recommended by our friend Drews Beckman who the 1300 Unimog as shown in the photo. This photo was taken at Carcross, Yukon

Dempster Highway to Inuvik, NWT
Would we drive the Dempster Highway again, probably not without good reason. It is such a long drive, and yet stunningly beautiful scenery. Rain can make the Dempster very slippery and dangerous. We were fortunate to have sunny weather with gorgeous cloud formations. Four fellows from Calgary on the Bikes. Crossing the Mackenzie River, 2 free ferries that connect the highway, check out the clouds, top of the world clouds.
Such a heavy dust cloud from the passing truck we had to stop on the road to let the dust clear till we could see the road again. Fortunately vehicles on the Dempster are few and far between.
Atlin, BC
Atlin is stunningly beautiful. A two and a half hour drive from Whitehorse about 1 hour of that on gravel road. Some of the old cabins and building have been rebuilt and add to the wonderful friendly community. This is a photo of one of the old boats and cabins that adorn the waterfront.
Stewart – Cassiar Highway BC
Late June this year we left for the Yukon taking the Stewart-Cassiar Highway. This time leaving the Unimog at home as most of the driving would be done on the highways. Instead taking our Truck, ATV, small Boat and Trailer.
This is a picture of Bear Glacier we took on the way to Stewart BC.
Welcome to bcexplore blog
Its been a while since we had the Unimog out. She is certainly not forgotten. I thought I saw a tear rolling down her grill the other day.
Next week we are taking our Truck, Trailer, ATV and Boat north with us to the Yukon for a couple of months. Will try to make some posts on our way
